PARTICIóN COLONIAL DEL TERRITORIO, CULTOS FUNERARIOS Y MEMORIA ANCESTRAL EN CARANGAS Y PRECORDILLERA DE ARICA (SIGLOS XVI-XVII) COLONIAL TERRITORIAL DIVISION, FUNERARY CULTS AND ANCESTRAL MEMORYIN CARANGAS AND THE PRECORDILLERA OF ARICA (XVI-XVII CENTURY)

El presente artículo intenta evaluar de qué modo el régimen colonial introdujo múltiples modificaciones en el espacio sagrado de Carangas y de la precordillera de Arica, y cómo estas transformaciones actuaron a varios niveles generando numerosas readaptaciones por parte de los pueblos que habitaban los valles altos de Arica y el Altiplano. Las alteraciones provocadas por la introducción de cementerios cristianos son perceptibles en las nuevas formas de enterramientos. También se observan alteraciones a nivel de la marca y de los ayllu con la permuta de los mojones, lo que no significó que todos los marcadores del espacio ancestral desaparecieran o fueran reformulados. This paper intends to evaluate the way the Spanish colonizer introduced abundant modifications into the sacred space of Carangas and the precordillera of Arica, which acting at different levels, made the peoples who lived in the higher valleys of Arica and the Altiplano assume numerous changes. Adjustments brought about by the introduction of Christian graveyards can be observed in new burial modes, as well as at the levels of marcas (region) and ayllus, through the change of mojones (boundary markers), not all of which were removed from or redesigned in the ancestral space.
