COMPARISON OF THE EFFECTS OF FOUR WEEKS OF STRENGTH AND SPECIFIC CIRCUIT TRAINING ON PERFORMANCE IN INTERMITTENT RUN AND STRENGTH OF YOUNG SOCCER PLAYERS

Abstract:

Comparison of the effects of four weeks of strength and specific circuit training on performance in intermittent run and strength of young soccer players. Brazilian Journal of Biomotricity, v. 2, n. 2, p. 132-142, 2008. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of 4 weeks of resistance and specific circuit training on the motor performance of 20 young soccer players had been separate randomly in group resistance training (GRT; n=10) and group circuit training (GCT; n=10). Both thegroups had been submitted the 4 weeks of training, carried through in 3 weekly sessions of trainings, in alternating days. Before and after training had been measures the maximum force by means of the test of 1-RM in leg press 45°, extension and flexion of the knee; and, the performance in intermittent recovery test (Yo-Yo) level two.For treatment of the data was used analysis of variance (ANOVA) for repeated measures followed of the test of post hoc HSD of Tukey, with P<0.05. After 4 weeks of training the GRT and GCT had gotten significant increases in the maximum force in the three tested exercises (leg press 45°: GRT +15.0% and GCT +14.0%; extension of knee: GRT + 9.1% and GCT + 8.1%; e flexion of knee: GRT + 4.0% and GCT + 5.0%; P<0.05). Significant difference in the performance in intermittent test of high intensity before and after training was not evidenced in the two groups (P>0.05). From these findings concluded that 4 weeks of resistance or circuit training increased muscle strength of soccer players. However, none of the methods of training promoted increases in aerobic resistance.
