BARTHOLOMEU NETO, J.; PRESTES, J.; LEITE, R. D.; MAGOSSO, R. F.; ASSUMP O, C. O.;OLIVEIRA, G. S.; CIELO, F. M. B. L.; PELLEGRINOTTI, I. L. Influence of 23 weeks of training in time andcritical speed in young swimmers. Brazilian Journal Biomotricity, v. 3, n. 2, p. 130-138, 2009.The aim of thisstudy was to evaluate the influence of a training program on swim speed and critical speed in youngswimming athletes. 16 athletes were accomplished, nine boys and seven girls, with a mean age of14.06±1.22 years old. Training was divided into four mesocycles: T1=general endurance; T2=specificendurance; T3=competitive; T4=taper, with total duration of 23 weeks. The variables analyzed wereswimming time (25 meters) and critical speed was calculated through the slope of the linear regressionbetween the distances(m) and e times(s). Friedmann and Wilcoxon tests were used, with p< 0.05. In resultswas showed the time obtained in the 25 meters test was statistically different in T3 and T4 when comparedto T1 and T2 groups. The same result was observed in the variable critical speed, showing significantdifference in the same phases. Therefore, the 23 weeks of periodized training positively influenced thevariables, allowing better knowledge about the behavior during the season’s training.
