A orianidade Revisitada: Novas PosturasKeywords: Mentality , Spiritual vs. Temporal Abstract: The role that the mentality of an era (understood as social thought) has on the world vision and in the attitudes of human communities, in what concerns the representations of the world, is particularly crucial in determining a culture in formation. That might have been the Azorean case. For the understanding of the Azorean culture, it will therefore be necessary to be aware of the basic factors of the mentality of the first quarter of the 15th century, besides the social representations characteristic of each group of settlers. Such an assemblage of factors formed the "Founder Myth", from which standout some marks common to the "Celtic culture", likewise the priority of the spiritual over the temporal.
