Gordon Willey was one of modern archaeology pioneers. Methods, data, theories and narratives he generated are still between the pillars of the archaeological thought about pre-Columbian America social processes. This short paper analyzes the ways in which, from recent views, two of the prime contributions of his work, settlement pattern archaeology and tradition idea, as social practices historical analysis tools.
