Most of her portrayals arerealistic with a focus on her sense of frustration andalienation. Born on March 31, 1934, in the SouthernMalabar in Kerala, Das received most of her education athome and was married at the early age of 15. Her earlymarriage meant that she was denied the opportunity toinvoke her feminine instincts. This suppression cast anegative image of men on her young mind. It is thissuppression suffered by Das in a patriarchal society thatconstitutes the focal point of her quest for true love.
