Stakeholders perception about prescribed fire use in Lithuania

The objective of this article is to investigate attitudes of different stakeholders on applying of prescribed fire management in Lithuania. Research was carried out with telephone interviews to different actors interested in landscape management. The results show that the majority of the respondents have a negative view towards prescribed fire application for landscape management. The majority of the stakeholders involved in this survey showed a lack of knowledge about prescribed fire and relate it with wildland fires and advocate that there is not enough data that ensure the viability of landscape management with prescribed fire. This perception about fire does not agree with the ecological effects of fire in boreal and Lithuanian ecosystems.
