Using TI-Nspire to Enhance the Teaching of a Geometric Theorem

Abstract:

In this paper, we demonstrate how to enhance teaching the theorem on the concurrency of the medians of a triangle. First we use the dynamic geometry tools of TI-Nspire to facilitate the development of a geometric proof. Then we apply both a black box and a white box approach to use the CAS feature of TI-Nspire to develop an algebraic proof. We also provide sets of questions for use in scaffolding student thinking in both cases.
