Avalia o dos parametros de crescimento em plantas jovens de Phaseolus vulgaris L. (Feij o) expostas à polui o aérea da cidade de S o Paulo

This study aimed to evaluate the growth of young Phaseolus vulgaris (L.) plants exposed to air pollution in Sao Paulo. Between January and February 2010, for a period of 43 days, 40 young plants were exposed to several pollutants at two sites (Congonhas and Ibirapuera) located next to Cetesb air-quality monitoring stations having different pollution profiles. Subsequently, biometric readings of the plants' aerial organs were analyzed. A t-test statistical analysis was carried out in order to compare their growth between sites. Plants exposed at Ibirapuera grew more than those exposed at Congonhas, which can be explained by the reduced formation of ozone (the main local pollutant) in the former region, in addition to the range of other air contaminants that exist at the Congonhas station. The bean plants exhibited growth parameter alterations under conditions of environmental pollution.
