Infertility: Possibility and Domination

This study focuses on infertility as an area of possibility and domination from the point of view of women. Interviews conducted with lower and lower middle class women, who attend an infertility treatment center constitute the main axis of this paper. These interviews have revealed that infertility treatment uintentionally lets women interact with each other about their experiences and gain distance from their daily lives on the one hand. Om the other hand, infertility treatment is a part of previous population politics and an ongoing biopolitical agenda. In other words, patriarchal medicine, that nourishes from militarism influences constitutes an area of domination that is revealed through women's experiences with infertility treatment. In this paper, I will discuss these issues in the light of the treatment of infertility in the academy and in the media, in the world and in Turkey.
