Türkiye’de E itim-Ekonomik Büyüme li kisi: 1923-2011 (Kantitatif Bir Yakla m)Keywords: Economic Growth , Cointegration , Turkey Abstract: The relationship between education and economic growth is one of the most attractive subjects in economic literature. Displaying the quantitative effects of education on economic growth plays a role in promoting the allocation of a larger portion of scarce resources to education in the development process. The aim of this study is to investigate effects of education on economic growth in Turkish economy in the period of 1923-2011. As a result of econometric analysis it has been found that developments in education have positive effects on economic growth.According to the findings of the model which includes student numbers at different levels of education as education variables, increase in the number of students enrolled at high schools and higher education institutions leads to significant and positive effects on economic growth. Each 1% increase in high school students in Turkey means 0.2% increase in GDP and each 1% increase in higher education leads to 3% increase in GDP. Estimations present that allocating more resources in education, especially higher education, will generate significant contributions in economic development process
