Sports Branches that Parent Having Different Professions and Educational Backgrounds Prefer Their Children to Take Up

In 2003-2004 teaching year the parents of 180 students in 6 primary schools in the city center of Ayd n were asked to report the sport branches they prefer their children to take up. Parents’ professions and educational backgrounds were taken as independent variables and chi-square analysis was done to determine whether the independent variables had an effect on the parents’ choice of sports branches for their children. As a result, it is found out that social characteristics such as having different professions and educational backgrounds cause a significant difference in parents’ preferences of sports branches (p<.05).
