Antioxidant activity of Kydia calycina Roxb. leaves extractKeywords: DPPH , ABTS , Kydia calycina , antioxidant Abstract: Kydia calycina Roxb. (Malvaceae) distributed in tropical Himalayas from the Indus eastwards to Myanmar (Burma) and in peninsular India. Traditionally the K. calcina used to treat jaundice, skin diseases, ulcers, body pains, arthritis and lumbago. We have examined the antioxidant activity of methanolic extract. The assays employed are DPPH and ABTS. Methanolic extract had significant antioxidant effects in the above assays. The extract showed IC50 in DPPH and ABTS assay are 81.34, 73.24 μg/ml and found to be comparable with standard. The high antioxidant activity of K. calycina adds one more positive attribute to its known medicinal properties.
