Antiulcer Activity of an Isolated Compound (SP–1) from the Seeds of Nirmali (Strychnor potatorum Linn.)Keywords: Antiulcer activity , Ethanol , Stress , Indomethacin , Pyloric ligation , Nirmali (Strychnor potatorum Linn.) Abstract: An active compound (SP-1) was isolated from the seeds of Nirmali (Strychnor potatorum Linn.) and its antiulcer activity was studied against ethanol, hydrochloric acid, indomethacin, stress and pyloric ligation induced gastric ulceration in albino rats. A significant antiulcer activity of SP-1was observed in all the models. SP-1 thus provides a scientific rationale for the use as antiulcer drug.
