The author presents the relations among memory, the individual and the social context, as an introduction to her w ork on recollections of the elderly. She revises and presents an excf-llent synthesis of the postulates of the three most important scholars on the subjet: Henri Bergson, Maurice Halbwachs, and Bartlett. She shows their similities and differences and concludes her work with the social and selective characteristics of individual and group memory.
