Nanoparticulate Drug Delivery Systems For Targeting The Drugs To The Brain

A major problem in the treatment of Central Nervous System diseases is the limited entry of the drugs into the brain. The basis for that restricted access is the blood brain barrier, which is formed by the brain capillary endothelium. In recent years, several pharmaceutical strategies have been developed to overcome blood brain barrier. The major of them is a drug targeting to the brain using colloidal drug carrier systems such as nanoparticles. In this review; physiology and structure of blood brain barrier and nanoparticles, its technologies and transport mechanisms to the brain used as brain targeted drug delivery systems were evaluated
