Gold Nanoparticle as an Alternative Diagnostic Solution For Detection Protein in Cerebrospinal Fluid

Editor, the use of gold nanoparticle as a diagnostic tool is very interesting. Based on present advanced nanotechnology, gold nanoparticle can be used as a naked eye system for rough screening of many disorders. Basically, the interaction between gold nanoparticle and protein in body fluid can result in color change and this is useful for naked eye detection. The previous report on proteinuria detection is good example(2). Here, the author would like to discuss whether this application in cerebrospinal fluid specimen. The observation on the previous report on the study of interaction between gold nanoparticle and Cryptococcus spp. is hereby mentioned(1). According to this observation, after mixing a CSF sample with gold nanoparticle solution, red color can be observed if the CSF protein is positive (any degree that can detected by Pandy test, whether there is Cryptococcus spp. or not) while grey color can be observed if the CSF protein is positive. It hereby can show that gold nanoparticle solution can be another alternative useful diagnostic solution for detection of protein in CSF.
