This article analyses The History of familyin Brazil and defends that family hasn't to be seen as ahouse holding only. My purpose here is to think aboutfamily as a group of people which has different kindsof relationships, belonging feelings, dependences andsolidarities within its members. In order to defend thispoint of view, I used a micro history methodology andI conducted my research analyzing a variety ofprimary sources such as: letters, photography, diaries,wills, and other documents related to the Ribeiro deAvellar family that were collected by Mariana Velhode Avellar, viscondessa de Ubá.
