Guest EditorialKeywords: Special Issue , Multimedia Information Processing Abstract: IITA 2008 has been held in Shanghai, China, December 2008. 2008 International Symposium on Intelligent Information Technology Application (IITA 2008) was the second symposium in the annual series that started in Zhang Jiajie, China, during December 2–3, 2007. IITA 2008 provides a forum for engineers and scientists in academia, university and industry to present their latest research findings in any aspects of intelligent information technology. In 2008, we especially encouraged papers on machine learning; signal Processing, communication Systems, circuits and Systems etc. We also welcome papers that highlight successful modern applications of Intelligent Information Technology, such as Multimedia, Bioinformatics, Power, Neural Systems, Control and so on .We were are soliciting papers that present recent results, as well as more speculative presentations that discuss research challenges, define new applications, propose methodologies for evaluating and the roadmap for achieving the vision of information technology. 2008 International Symposium on Intelligent Information Technology Application is co-sponsored by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, USA, IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, Intelligent Information Technology Application Association, Hong Kong. Much work went into preparing a program of high quality. We received about 2400 submissions. Every paper was reviewed by 3 program committee members, about 600 were selected as regular papers, representing a 25% acceptance rate for regular papers. Out of more than 400 papers submitted to IITA, we have chosen 15 outstanding papers to be published in this special issue, track on Multimedia Information Processing. All these papers have been reviewed in the second round and were recommended to contain 30% more new material to be accepted and published in this Special Issue. To have a quick look at some papers in this special issue, in the first paper, Hongwei Fu et al design an acyclic lateral inhibition network model based on biology vision information processing mechanism, and an algorithm of image edge detection based on this model was also established, experiments prove that proposed model can preserve the farthest object detail information. Bin Luo et. al proposed a novel watermarking sharing system, the feature of the proposed system is sharing a secret of gray-level image among multi-users, and its application is ownership verification. Qiu-yu Zhang et. al proposed a two dimensional skin color probability forecast method, then extended a hand gesture segmentation method of multi-mode an
