ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT OF AN URBAN STREAM IN THE CITY OF AMERICANA - SP

The increasing population, lack of sanitation, environmental degradation affecting the riparian vegetation, land cover and use in inappropriate areas, are driving the county of Americana to the scarcity and the impossibility of using its waters. Thus, this study proposed to verify the microbiogical quality of the stream Sao Manoel, located in this city. The stream is classified as a first order, which is part of the Piracicaba Watershed, an important river basin at state of Sao Paulo. We used two qualitative methods for total and fecal coliforms. One technique is the traditional laboratory, with the count of colony forming units and the tests to identify the pathogen. And the other, through which TECNOBAC , through a card with half freeze-dried, dipped after the sample was incubated by the human body (36°C) after 24 hours appears dots indicating the presence of these biomarkers. Found multiple indicator microorganisms sewage pollution such as Escherichia coli, Proteus sp, Klebsiella sp and Pseudomonas sp.
