Diagnóstico da Gest o de Resíduos Sólidos Urbanos no Município de Araricá, Rio Grande do Sul

This study is an analysis of the current solid waste management in Ararica, located in the basin of river dos Sinos, in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre-RS. Based on data provided by the city hall, are described and evaluated all the processes involved from generation to final disposal of domestic solid waste from the town. Araricá are equipped with a central separation, sorting and transfer of waste (CSTT). Already practiced segregation of dry waste, but does not practice selective collection, and only a part of the organic waste is composted for re-use in community gardens or schools. But it has an infrastructure of waste management which is appropriate and ready to from environmental education programs in place will soon house an efficient and effective waste collection, creating better working conditions for the segregation of recyclable, much of organic material for composting and less amount of other waste for disposal in landfill. The average monthly household waste collected in the municipality is 60 tons. Currently, about 30% of the amount of waste collected is recycled in municipal plant, and a indefined part of the remaining material indiscriminately sent to composting conducted in the plant. The remainder is sent to landfill.
