Abstract:

New elements were added to the Ottoman Empire’s social structure with its multi-religious, multi-lingual and multi-ethnic character following the 19th century immigrations from Caucasus, Crimea and the Balkans. Muslim Crimean Turks constitute a major portion of this new mix. However, the relations between the Crimean Turks and the Ottoman Empire go farther back to previous centuries. The economic and cultural relations between Crimea and the Ottoman Empire did not disappear after the Russian invasion in 1873. They received aids in the field of education with the imports of course-books and the appointment of teachers.
