The Teaching Norms That the High School Teachers Try to Create in Their Classroom and Investigation of These Norms, According to Some Variables

Abstract:

In this study, it is aimed at determining the teaching norms that the high school teachers try to create in their classroom. Additionally potential relationships between these norms and teachers’ gender and their amount teaching experience. The samples of the study were comprised of 81 high school teachers. In the data gathering stage, multiple choice questions were asked to the teachers. The frequency tables were utilized in the analysis of the data gathered. The findings indicate that a relationship was found between the norms and amount of teaching experience in two questions and another relationship was found between the norms and gender in only one question. As well as it was observed that the a small number of teachers who had the most important position in the classroom wanted the students to prepare questions after giving a lecture to them; majority of teachers asked the students why they thought that way in relation with their answers; more than half of the teachers try to guide the students who gave wrong answers to the question asked by giving them clues; and almost all the teachers sometimes let the other students to comment on the answers given by the students.
