Judging relevance: a problem for e-litreacy

This article considers how information can be judged relevant, and what information literacy means, in the context of the World Wide Web. Rather than knowing how to find precisely the right information, in a finite repository, by skillful searching, e-literacy demands the development of abilities to make and convey judgements about the relevance of information from navigation in an unbounded and diverse information environment. Some suggestions are made for teaching e-literacy in a manner consistent with this analysis.
