Strategic relations emanate from power-centered character of international relations. This brings about a tight classification of the strategic relations. For, the strategic relations can take on the form of cooperation and partnership as well as an asymmetrical one. Strategic cooperation refers to a short term and limited strategic scope where as, strategic partnership refers to pursuing long term and extensive strategic relations. Strategic cooperation is more vulnerable to disharmonies between the two sides whereas strategic partnership is more durable. Such a distinction matters in case any strategic relation suffers an impasse.
