GAP LLER NDE SOSYAL VE EKONOM K D Nü üM = SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION IN GAP (SOUTHEASTERN ANATOLIAN PROJECT) CITIES

In this article, the social and economic transformation in GAP cities are analyzed critically in the light of current statistical data. GAP is an integrated development project which was aimed at dealing with interregional differences and underdevelopment. Among basic objectives of GAP are to increase productivity in rural areas and employment, to develop the population absorption capacity of metropolitan cites, and to make it possible to use regional resources effectively. In this article, the effects of the above mentioned project, namely GAP, on the social, economic and cultural structures of the cities located in GAP region are analyzed.
