NEW RESEARCH FIELDS IN TURKISH SOCIOLOGY - TüRK SOSYOLOJ S N N YEN ALI MA MECRALARI

Important historical periods can be discerned throughout the developmental process of Turkish sociology, from the foundation years of the Turkish Republic to the present. However, the most decisive and fundamental transformation in this developmental trend has arguably occurred in the last twenty years. The expansion of interdisciplinary studies, especially in the tradition of the social sciences, has created a convergence between so- ciology and other disciplines. This situation has enabled the emergence of new topics of study in the field of sociology on one hand, while preparing the ground for proliferation and diversification of the courses taught in sociology departments. New social facts, prompted by societal change, have entered the field of sociological research. The developmental process of Turkish sociology has been characterized by new societal dynamics and social phenomena, whereby the fields of sociological study have accordingly changed - dependent on this developmental process.
