From Sufi Beverage to Capitalist Commodity The Story of Coffee

Abstract:

In this study, coffee as an Islamic beverage discovered by a Sufi in the 15th century, and used previously in Egypt and stanbul in the 16th century and has spread coffee-drinking throughout the Islamic world. Coffee-houses first secular public domain of Islamic society are said to be increasingly public favour after 16th century. After one century, coffee as a recreational drug came into general use in the lands of Europe by the way of trading and diplomatic relations. European powers cultivated coffee in their colonies and product market in its homeland. This study inspected the making of coffee as an slamic beverage capitalist commodity.
