Exploration of hemolytic model of axial blood pump

Abstract:

Axial flow blood pumps provides additional energy to blood for heart failure patient, but its implanting destroy environment of blood cells, the direct consequence is hemolysis. According to energy conservation theorem, the severity of pump hemolysis depends on the energy utilization ratio of it. This is a new train of thought in this field. In the light of it, it ˉs necessary to clear up how much energy used to pump blood, so part of the rest is the energy leading to hemolysis. At present, a complete hemolysis model of axial blood pump remains unknown£ Based on the analysis of factors leading to hemolysis, this paper calculates the driving energy of blood pump from the angle of energy conservation, deduces the power for hemolysis. And then, establish universally applicable hemolytic model of axial blood pump in normal operation condition. The relevant coefficients of it are derived from the in vivo experimental data. The setting up of mathematic model plays very important role in forecasting the hemolysis and improve the blood compatibility. This paper proposes a novel idea for hemolysis predicting of axial blood pump, which provides vital guidance for the design and improving of pumps control system and even it is the basis for the follow-up work.
