Determination of Resistance Index (RI) of Renal Artery with Colour Doplex Doppler Before and After Interavenous Injection of Hypo and Hyperosmolar Intravenous Contrast AgentsAbstract: "nIntroduction: Hyperosmolar contrast media (Meglumin compound) is used for intravenous pyelography in some Iranian medical centers and regarding that Resistance Index (RI) of the renal artery is a sensitive index for the assessment of renal artery, this study was conducted. "nMaterials and Methods: In a double blind study from September 2007 to June 2008 among 110 referred patients to the radiology department of Ali-ebne abitaleb hospital of zahedan for intravenous pyelography, finally 60 elighible patients were divided into two qroups (30 patient received 1cc/kg Meglumin compound 76%, 30 patient received 1cc/kg Iopaque 240 mg/ml then renal artery RI before and after injection of contrast media measured by doplex Doppler. "nResults: In the Iopaque received group RI mean alteration (-/01+0/07) was not statistically significant (p>0/05) and in the Meglumin compound received group RI mean alteration(0/02 + 0/05) was statistically significant (p= 0/05). "nConclusion: RI mean alteration difference between the two groups of hypoosmolar (Iopaque) and hyper osmolar (Meglumin compound) was not significant (p>0.05). The RI mean alteration after administration of hypo osmolar contrast media (Iopaque) had decreased but it had increased after hyper osmolar contrast media, although it is not statistically significant.
