Abstract:

"nIntroduction: Hydatid disease has a high incidence in the countries of the temperate zone such as Iran. Only few cases in the head and neck region have been reported in literature. We described a rare case of infratemporal fossa echinococcus granulosus in a thirteen-year-old girl from an endemic area (Dashte Moghan) in Iran. "nClinical findings: A thirteen-year-old girl with a right sided frozen eye and facial swelling was admitted in our hospital. In the obtained CT scan there was a cyst in the right infratemporal area. She had a past history of brain hydatid cyst. The cyst was resected and the histological diagnosis was hydatid cyst. The liver was not affected in this patient. "nConclusion: Infratemporal fossa is a rare location for hydatid disease and we should consider the diagnosis for any cystic lesion of the infratemporal fossa in an endemic area.
