Abstract:

"nIntroduction: Hemangiomas of the bone are uncommon tumors exception cranial vault and vertebrae .Multiple lesions are common in the spine. Osseous hemangiomas are relatively common in adults. Rarely the tumor may cause collapse of the vertebral body and result in clinical signs and symptoms of vertebral compression. Hemangiomas are commonly encountered as incidental findings when the spine is examined by MRI. They appear as areas of mixed signal intensity, both intermediate and high, within the vertebral body on T1-weighted images. They are bright high signal on T2. "nMaterials and Methods: Our study is a documented (all images and reports are archived) retrospective view on 3000 patients of Maragheh MRI center who were referred to lumbar MRI study for their low back pain. "nResults: 51.3 % of the patients were female and 48.7% were male. Hemangioma is seen in 61 patients (50 single vertebral and 11cases with multilevel lesions). 38 cases were women versus 23 men. Totally 2.46 percent of the referred women and 1.57% of the referred men had hemangioma in their spine. About 2 percent of all patients have shown hemangioma. The incidence of the hemangioma is dominant in women. "nConclusion: Incidence of the multilevel hemangioma is higher in women in our study. No canal and cordal impression was seen in our cases.
