Bacteremia caused by Campylobacter jejuni subsp. jejuni in a patient with liver cirrhosis: A case reportKeywords: Campylobacter jejuni , bacteremia , cirrhosis Abstract: Campylobacter species are Gram-negative, oxidasepositive,non-spore forming and encapsulated bacteria.Among these, most infectious agents seen in human andanimal species are Campylobacter jejuni, Campylobacterfetus and Campylobacter coli. They can cause intestinaland extra-intestinal diseases in humans. Although C.jejunisubsp. jejuni is the most frequently identified agent in intestinalcases, C.fetus subsp. fetus is the most frequentlyidentified agent in almost all bacteremia cases that reportedto CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).Bacteremia can be seen less than 1 % of patientsinfected with C.jejuni. Incidence of bacteremia is higheramong patients with chronic liver diseases, hepatobiliaryor gastrointestinal cancers and HIV-infected patients. In this case report, we present a previously diagnosed47-years-old liver cirrhosis patient whom C.jejuni subsp.jejuni isolated from blood culture.
