: This study presents the Romanian Principalities at the second half of the XIX century from the point of view of Victor Place, the French consul. Since the autumn of 1855 years, he was consul of France and tried by all possible means to avoid the unionist movement. The period of seven years (september 1855-april 1863) allowed to discover different aspects of Romanian society: economy, society, politics.These reports and telegrames were very important for the reconstruction of the Romanian realities.
