A. D. Xenopol's Conception of the Literary Romanian LanguageKeywords: history , historiography , historical synthesis , literary language , nation , national culture Abstract: : With Xenopol, his preoccupations with the Romanian literary language are obvious from the very beginnings of his journalistic work, i.e. the “first on the path of science,” as he called his study The National Culture. A. D. Xenopol considered, in his entire work, language the fundamental element of national culture and an integral part of any work, in the form and content relationship. Appreciating language from these two points of view enabled him to voice his thoughts authoritatively, from the higher position he occupied, with respect to the most important moments of the development of the modern Romanian literary language.
