Effect of Addition of Flyash on the Properties of Waste Plastic Fibre Reinforced Concrete-an Experimental Investigation

Abstract:

The fibre reinforced concrete, which is defined as acomposite material consisting of a material ofcement mortar or concrete and discontinuesdiscrete, uniformly distributed fibres has gained awide popularity in the construction industry. Theintroduction of fibres into the concrete inducesmany desirable properties to the concrete and suchconcrete has wide varieties of applications in thefield of civil engineering. Many types of fibres likesteel, carbon, GI, glass, asbestos fibres can be usedfor the production of fibre reinforced concrete.The plastic is causing an environmentalpollution. The plastic is a non-biodegradablematerial. It do not undergo decay. To destroy thisplastic, if it is burnt, it adds to air pollution byreleasing many toxic gases. Thus, forenvironmentalists, the plastic has become a bigheadache.Flyash is another industrial waste which iscausing environmental pollution. The water inwhich flysah falls becomes unfit for drinking. Theland on which it falls becomes infertile. The airbecomes polluted since it spreads into atmosphereand causes lung problems.In this paper an attempts has been made tostudy the properties of fibre reinforced concreteproduced from waste plastic fibres and flyashwhich are the two environmental pollutions. Thestrength characteristics of waste plastic fibrereinforced concrete like compressive strength,tensile strength, flexural strength and impactstrength are found when the flyash is added indifferent percentages like 0%, 30%, 50%, 70%,90%, and 110%. Also the workability characteristicof waste plastic fibre reinforced concrete withflyash is studied.
