Effect of Ceric Sulphate on Gonads of Male Albino Rats

Chemicals have become important needs of our day to day life. Many industries that are concernedwith manufacturing various products use variety of chemicals. The deleterious effect of thesechemicals causes certain occupational diseases. One of such chemicals (cerric sulphate) which arewidely used in industries such as ceramic, glass and pharmaceuticals was taken in this study and itseffects on gonads of male albino rats were analyzed. Twenty healthy male albino rats were used in thestudy and the cerric sulphate solution was administered subcutaneously to 10 experimental rats and itseffect on gonads were analyzed using various parameters such as sexual behavior (Mounting index andtotal sexual behavior), weight of animals, dimension of testes, hormonal analysis, semen analysis,histological analysis of testes and diameter of seminiferous tubules with that of 10 control rats. Theexperimental rats had deleterious effect on gonads except the testosterone hormone level and mountingindex which only showed a slight variation when compared to that of control rats and all the otherparameters showed much difference and was also statistically significant. Ceric sulphate was found tobe inducing sterility in male rats which has been confirmed after analyzing all the parameters of thestudy.
