Physical geography (also knownas geosystems or physiography) is one of the two majorsubfields of geography. Physical geography is that branchof natural science which deals with the study of processesand patterns in the natural environment like theatmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and geosphere, asopposed to the cultural or built environment, the domainof human geography. Within the body of physicalgeography, the Earth is often split either intoseveral spheres or environments, the main spheres beingthe atmosphere, biosphere, cryosphere,geosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere and pedosphere. Research in physical geography is ofteninterdisciplinary and uses the systems approach.
