DEVELOPING LEAN PRODUCTION STEP BY STEP

As with most other production philosophies and management practices, lean principles cannot be universally applied. However, because they are fundamentally customer value driven, they are suitable for many manufacturing environments. There are five basic principles of lean manufacturing: understanding customer, value stream analysis, flow, pull, perfection. These five lean principles work together and are fundamental to the elimination of waste. This paper illustrates how I supports the first steps of lean principles in a factory, using a simple Value Stream Mapping symbols. Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a visualization tool oriented to the Toyota version of Lean Manufacturing (Toyota Production System). It helps to understand and streamline work processes using the tools and techniques of Lean Manufacturing.
