Design and Comparative analysis of a Metamaterial included Slotted Patch Antenna with a Metamaterial Cover over PatchKeywords: Microstrip antenna (MSA) , Antennas , Patch cover , Directivity , Negative refractive Index (NRI) , metamaterials Abstract: A metamaterial is introduced into the cover of apatch antenna and its band structure is analyzed. Themetamaterial cover with correct selection of the workingfrequency increases the patch antenna’s directivity. Based on themethodology, optimization of structure is proposed for theapplication of metamaterials as antenna substrate to primarilyenhance directivity by minimizing its refractive index. Theexperimental results are presented thoroughly and compared withthe analytic calculations. This paper aims to review and criticallydiscuss the comparision of a metamaterial included patch andmetamaterial cover over the patch. An analytical method is usedto predict the features of the simulation results, implying thatwithin a certain frequency range, comparision can be madebetween these two models. The S-parameters as a performancematrix are obtained from antenna simulations carried onCADFEKO Silverlite version 5.5.
