Abstract:

Ovarian cysts are small fluid filled sacs that develop on a woman’s ovaries. Ovarian cysts are benign or malignant. About 95% of ovarian cysts are benign. The incidence of bilateral ovarian cyst is 10%-15%.There are various types of cysts: follicular cyst, corpus luteum cyst, haemorrhagic cyst, dermoid cyst, endometrioma or endometrial cyst, polycystic ovary, cystadenoma and ovarian teratoma. Teratomas account for 15 % to 20% of all ovarian tumours. One of the major complications seen in ovarian cysts is torsion. Increasing tumour size leads to increased risk of torsion. We report a series of three cases in whom bilateral ovarian cysts were found with torsion of one of the ovaries. The ovary that underwent torsion had teratoma in all the three cases. We retained a small amount ovarian tissue on the healthier side after excising the ovarian cyst. All the three patients conceived in due course of time.
