Revis o à Escola Baiana de Pintura: um estudo sobre o pintor José Teófilo de Jesus

O estudo tem como objetivo uma revis o da história da pintura religiosa na Bahia entre os séculos XVIII e XIX, enquadrada no conceito de “Escola Baiana de Pintura”. Vários estudiosos dessa matéria utilizaram como referencia um documento an nimo repetindo equívocos com rela o à condi o social do artista, autorias e atribui es de obras artísticas produzidas nesse periodo. Revisa-se também a atua o do pintor José Teófilo de Jesus pautada em fontes arquivísticas e iconográficas. Como conclus o, tem-se em conta as naturais contradi es sociais que neste periodo se fizeram sentir e que enquadraram a a o quotidiana e artística dos pintores baianos.The study aims to review the history of religious painting in Bahia, between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, framed within the concept of Bahia School of Painting. Several scholars have used as a reference document anonimo repeating misconceptions regarding the social status of artists, authors and duties of artistic works produced in that period. It also reviews the work of painter José Teófilo de Jesus guided by archival sources and iconographic. In conclusion, we have regard to the natural social contradictions that this period was felt and that framed the action every day and artistic painters from Bahia.
