" LOS INDIOS EN EL DíA AUMENTAN SU DESVERGüENZA... " REBELDíA, DISPUTAS Y CONFLICTOS EN EL 'PUEBLO DE INDIOS' DE POMAIRE (CHILE CENTRAL), 1790-1811 CONFLICTS AND MUTINY IN THE 'PUEBLO DE INDIOS' OF POMAIRE (CENTRAL CHILE), 1790-1811

Este artículo analiza los eventos violentos que tuvieron lugar en el 'pueblo de indios' de Pomaire en septiembre de 1811, marcando el fin de una era en que se les criminalizó, se atentó contra sus tierras y se produjeron disputas internas por la sucesión al cacicazgo. Se plantea como hipótesis central que esta secuencia de conflictos fue una expresión localizada del enfrentamiento mayor que, durante esa misma época, se desarrolló entre la elite republicana y algunos segmentos significativos de la plebe que negaron su adhesión a la revolución aristocrática. Metodológicamente, se usan los aportes de los estudios subalternos, de la historia social, de la microhistoria y de la etnohistoria, para contrarrestar el relato oficial que ha sistemáticamente omitido estos hechos de sus páginas. This article analyzes the violent events that took place at the 'pueblo de indios'ofPomaire in September, 1811, marking the end ofan era during which the Indians were criminalized, their lands'rights were questioned and internal strife erupted due to a legal suitfor the ascension to the office of cacique. It postulates that this sequence of conflicts was a localized expression of the major confrontation which, during that period, evolved between the Republican elite and some important sectors of the plebe, who denied their support to the Aristocratic Revolution. Methodologically, it combines the contributions made by Subaltern Studies, Social History, Microhistory and Etnohistory, in order to challenge the official narrative which has systematically ignored these events.
