Abstract:

Present paper describes oil composition of the seed and leaves of Cynometra iripa Kostel. The analysis of fatty acids was performed following extraction in petroleum ether, and esterification using GC-FID. The saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acid were found 39.3%, 18.2% and 42.4%respectively in seed oil and leaves oil content was 76.5%, 17.9% and 5.6% as saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids respectively. The major fatty acids in Cynometra iripa seeds oil were Linoleicacid, oleic acid, palmitic acid and caproic acid. However major components of leaves oil are palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, myristic acid. Stearic acid is observed in both, seed oil and leaf oil in appreciable quantities. This analysis reveals that seeds and leaves of Cynometra iripa serves as a source of essential fatty acids (C18: 2W6, C18:1w9).
