Isolation and Quantification of Nirgundoside in Vitex nirgundo Linn. Leaf Powder by HPTLC Method.

Vitex nirgundo Linn. belonging to family Verbenaceae, is an aromatic shrub. In the ayurvedic system of medicine, it is used to control pain, inflammation and other related diseases which contain many polyphenolic compounds, terpenoids, glycosidic iridoids and alkaloids. Bioactivity guided phytochemical investigation ofmethanolic extract of leaves of Vitex nirgundo resulted in the isolation of marker compounds under silica gel by Column chromatography and preparative TLC. They was identified as Nirgundoside, the structures of pure compounds were elucidated by mobile phase, Rf values, Co-TLC, Colour reactions and UV spectroscopicmethods as well as HPTLC profile. This paper reports a simple, rapid, accurate, and precise HPTLC method for quantitative analysis of Nirgundoside which can be used for phytochemical profiling of V. nirgundo Linn. Leaf powder.
