Lo maravilloso –to thaumaston-: Un elemento olvidado en la Poética

Resumen: La Poética incluye un término frecuentemente olvidado por los intérpretes y que debe ser estudiado, to thaumaston (lo maravilloso), para comprender el auténtico sentido de la tragedia según la filosofía del arte de Aristóteles. Para él, su inclusión es una exigencia en la representación trágica, porque es la mediación entre la causalidad de los sucesos, lo inesperado de ellos y la compasión y el temor producidos por semejante situación en los espectadores. Lo maravilloso es agradable e implica un modo de conocimiento de la realidad y, sin embargo, Aristóteles lo caracteriza como principio y causa de lo thaumaston a lo irracional. Cómo interpretar el término si, para él, la poesía es más universal que la historia y nada en el quehacer del poeta debe quedar fuera de la inteligibilidad de la acción y de la verosimilitud del relato? Abstract: The Poeticincludes one element frequently forgoten by the interpreters which should be studied, to thaumaston (the wonderfull), to comprehend the authentic sense of tragedy acording to Aristotle′s philosophy of art. For him, its inclusion is a demand on the tragic representation, because it is the mediation between the causality of events, the unexpected of them and the compasion and fear produced in the spectator by such situation. The wonderfull is pleasant and implies a way of knowing the reality. However, Aristotle characterizes the irrational as principle and cause of the thaumaston. How should we interpretate the term if, for him, poetry is more universal than history and anything in the work of the poet must be kept outside the intelligibility and the verisimilitude of the story?
