TRAFFIC SAFETY ASSURANCE DURING WINTER MAINTENANCE OF HIGHWAYS

Statement of the problem. The problem of determining safe distances between snowplows during winter road maintenance has been discussed with consideration for safe overtaking.Results and conclusions. Road, weather and technology factors influencing road safety were jus-tified. The mathematical models for calculation are reported. The maximum permissible safe speeds for different road pavement conditions regarded as limiting conditions were computed. Calculations were performed for a wide range of road machine speeds and for various winter pavement conditions. The values obtained were compared with the values presented in standards.
