Evaluación de la eficacia del soporte nutricional enteral: En ni os con leucemia linfocítica aguda de bajo riesgo

OBJETIVOS: La desnutrición es un problema en ni os con cáncer. En este trabajo se evalúa la eficacia del soporte nutricional enteral planificado por el Servicio de Nutrición Crecimiento y Desarrollo del Hospital de Ni os “J.M de Los Ríos,” en pacientes con leucemia linfocítica aguda de bajo riesgo. MéTODOS: A través de un estudio prospectivo, controlado, comparativo, aleatorio, realizado entre mayo y septiembre del a o 2001, y en el cual, se incluyeron 16 ni os mayores de 3 a os, de ambos sexos. Se evaluó la nutrición integral de cada uno al inicio y final del estudio, conformándose dos grupos: control (dieta exclusiva) y experimental (dieta suplementada con fórmula polimérica). RESULTADOS: No se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre ambos grupos (P> 0,05), para cada una de las variables estudiadas; sólo se observó una diferencia estadísticamente significativa para cada grupo al inicio y final del estudio. CONCLUSIONES: La fórmula polimérica fue bien tolerada. Los pacientes mejoran su estado nutricional, y su calidad de vida tolerando bien los antineoplásicos. OBJECTIVES: The malnutrition is a problem in children with cancer. In this work we evaluated the efficacy of nutritional support planed by the Nutrition, Growth and Development Service in the Hospital “J M de Los Rios” in patients with low risk acute lymphocyte leukemia. METHODS: Across the prospective, controlled, comparative and randomized study realized from May to September of the year 2001, witch we included 16 children over three years old and both sexes. The integral nutrition evaluation was performed each of them at the beginning and end of the study complying two groups: control group (exclusively diet) and experimental group (diet with supplement with polymeric formula). RESULTS: No significance statistics difference between both groups (P> 0.005) for every one of study variables, how ever found one (P< 0.05) for each group at the begin and the end of the study. CONCLUSIONS: The polymeric formula was well tolerated. The patients improve the nutritional status and quality of life, getting good tolerance for the anti-neoplasics.
