Evaluation of Risk Factors In Hypertension Patients Visiting to Rural Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital

Abstract:

Hypertension is a chronic condition, which leads to serious complications like cardiovascular diseases and stroke. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the risk factors for hypertension in rural tertiary care teaching hospital by using risk assessment form. This contains 17 structured closed ended questionnaires. It is a prospective observational study conducted over a period of six months. In this study 54 subjects consisting of 29(52.7%) men and 25(47.3%) women had hypertension. In this study Age, gender, BMI, Physical inactivity, Family history, Smoking and Alcoholic were observed. In which smoking 16(29.63%) and alcoholic 13(24.07%) were significant risk factors seen only in male. In hypertension patients, age is a major risk factor, in which more number of patients of age 65–74 years were 35(24.47%). In physical inactivity more number of female were exposed 17(32.7%) than male. Commonly seen risk factors among both the genders were age, physical inactivity, BMI and family history. By this study we concluded that more number of male hypertension patients were exposed to risk factors than female. Among these age and physical inactivity were the main risk factors responsible for hypertension.
