Essay: O Candomblé e a cultura afrobrasileira

This article discusses the elements of black culture in the formationof the Brazilian society. Departing from historical information, it is observed how African traditions, in syncretism with Catholicism, have adjusted the Catholic cult of saints to the cult of the African pantheon which has originated candomblé. Candomblé, a religion formed in the state of Bahia during the 19th century by the Yoruba nation, still preserves the memory of their ancestors in its rituals – however, it loses elements from the past and incorporates new elements.
